The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent, humanitarian, non-profit NGO with 4,500 staff working in around 25 countries to provide protection and assistance to populations affected by natural disasters and conflicts. Headquartered in Oslo, NRC also has regional offices in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. NRC Geneva's representation office was established in 1998 to lead the organization's humanitarian policy work. NRC Geneva provides policy guidance to different stakeholders and influences institutional, inter-agency and global processes to improve protection, assistance and access for displaced populations.
As part of its policy work, NRC Geneva has implemented a project to enhance awareness of, and adherence to, the humanitarian principles. This project has been supported by the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO), the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NMFA) and the U.S. Agency for International Development's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA).
Through its various activities and field-based experience, NRC has amassed extensive evidence and knowledge of unifying principles and good practices to enhance awareness and implementation of the principles.
